Each wildfire season, residents of West Kelowna live under the fear of losing their only power source. Due to the substations remote location, a wildfire along any part the 80 kilometre transmission line could result in no power for 70,000 residents on the westside.
BC Hydro and FortisBC will be working together to create a secondary power source connecting a new transmission line, via under water cable, across Okanagan Lake.
Next steps will see BC Hydro develop a project schedule early next year, which will include community open houses and other engagement activities.
