Celebrating Community: SLNA Presentation to West Kelowna Council

On November 18th, the Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) presented at a Special Council Meeting held by the City of West Kelowna. The presentation by Mick Wood, SLNA vice-president, highlighted the association's recent collaborative successes with the city, demonstrating a solid partnership focused on enhancing the neighbourhood.

These collaborative successes included:
Completion of Phase 1 and 2 of the Shannon Lake Road Active Transportation Project: A vital step toward promoting safer and more accessible transportation options within the neighbourhood.
Additional Controlled Crosswalks on Shannon Lake Road and Shannon Way: These enhancements improve pedestrian safety and promote active transport.
Butt Road / Old Okanagan Highway Intersection Project: Improving traffic flow and safety.
Fire Mitigation Work at McDougall Creek Bridge Area: Protecting our community from potential fire hazards.
"Welcome to Shannon Lake" Banners at Both Entrances: A warm gesture that greets visitors and residents alike.
Wood also shared the success of several SLNA-hosted events, further enhancing neighbourhood engagement:

Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Dinner and Dance: A lively evening that fosters community ties and celebrates local culture.
Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Breakfast with Santa: Bringing joy to families and creating cherished memories.
Meet and Greet with the Mayor, Council, and City Staff: An opportunity for direct interaction between residents and local leaders, enhancing transparency and communication.
Old Town Hall Meetings with Municipal and Provincial Representatives: Ensuring that the concerns of Shannon Lake residents are heard at all levels of government.
The SLNA is committed to ongoing advocacy for the community, collaborating with the City of West Kelowna on various initiatives, such as:

Beautification of Medians and Right-of-Ways along Shannon Lake Road: Enhancing the aesthetics of the neighbourhood.
Addressing Concerns with the Master Transportation Plan Draft: Ensuring that the impacts of proposed changes do not negatively affect our community.
Advocating for a Community Centre and Childcare Centre at Shannon Woods Park: Meeting vital community recreation and childcare needs.
