Residents are encouraged to complete a BC-Hydro short survey in regards to the West Kelowna Substation Upgrade Project.
The westside communities - Westbank First Nation, West Kelowna and Peachland - are currently dependent on a single 138 Kilovolt transmission line. A loss of power due to wildfire, severe storm or equipment failure could result in 70,000 westside residents being without power for an undetermined time.
The need for a secondary transmission line was identified in 2014. After considerable delay, BC-Hydro has proposed connecting the West Kelowna Substation to a substation in Kelowna operated by Fortis BC.

BC-Hydro has identified several options for the transmission line route including above ground transmission lines following the Shannon Lake Corridor. Transmission lines requiring 100-foot power poles could have environmental (removal of trees), aethetic (100-foot poles) and financial (property values) impact on our neighbourhood.

It's important that residents voice their concerns.
