The Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) is pleased to share that our president, Tom Groat, has been elected to West Kelowna City Council. We congratulate Tom on this achievement and look forward to seeing him continue contributing to our community in a new role.

During Tom’s six years as SLNA president, the Association has worked to improve neighbourhood safety, infrastructure, and quality of life. Some of the initiatives Tom and the SLNA have helped advance include road improvements, new sidewalks, bike lanes, multi-use paths, streetlights, and controlled crosswalks. Other highlights include the installation of the Tallus Ridge Hill Picnic Table, advocating for fire mitigation along Shannon Lake Road, and chairing the 2023 Okanagan Wildfire Responder Gratitude Event to recognize those who worked tirelessly during the devastating McDougall Creek wildfires.

Tom and the SLNA have also advocated for greater water security and appropriate power redundancy for West Kelowna. These are just a few examples of the work made possible through community involvement, collaboration, and a commitment to making our neighbourhood and city better.

Thank You, Shannon Lake!

Over the years, the SLNA has been fortunate to have the support and participation of so many Shannon Lake residents. Your interest, involvement, and willingness to come together help make our neighbourhood a great place to live.

It’s especially rewarding to see residents support community events such as our SLNA Dinner and Dance and Breakfast with Santa Family Event. These gatherings bring neighbours together, create lasting memories, and strengthen the sense of community that makes Shannon Lake special.

Thank you to everyone who attends our events, volunteers their time, supports our initiatives, and takes an interest in what’s happening in our neighbourhood. Your involvement makes a real difference!

Staying Connected to Our Community

Tom’s election also marks a time of transition for the Association, as he prepares to step down as SLNA president.

While Tom will be stepping down as SLNA president, he will continue to be an active member of the Shannon Lake community. His election to Council provides a new opportunity to contribute to West Kelowna, while he remains a resident who cares about the neighbourhood he calls home.

The SLNA will continue its work to bring neighbours together, support local initiatives, and help make Shannon Lake an even better place to live.

Get Involved — We’d Love to Hear from You!

A strong neighbourhood association depends on residents who are willing to get involved, share ideas, and help make things happen.

If you live in Shannon Lake and would like to play a more active role in your community, we encourage you to consider joining the SLNA executive. You don’t need to know everything about how a neighbourhood association works — just bring your interest, ideas, and willingness to contribute.

We would be delighted to meet with you, answer your questions, and explain a little more about what we do and how you can get involved.

Please contact us at slna.org@outlook.com to start a conversation.

Thank you again, Shannon Lake residents, for your continued support. Together, we can keep building a connected, welcoming, and vibrant neighbourhood that we’re all proud to call home.

Your Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Association (SLNA)
