Message from your SLNA

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and resident, the Shannon Lake Neighbourhood Association (SLNA) is helping to make a positive difference in the neighbourhood.

We're thrilled to celebrate five years since the reestablishment of the SLNA! During this time the SLNA, with the help of residents, has been able to make a real impact in protecting and improving our community.

Our mission remains focused on:

  • promoting community engagement and

  • enhancing the quality of life in Shannon Lake

Achievement Highlights

  • Opposed Large-Scale Hotel & Spa (2021): Led a petition with nearly 1,000 signatures, successfully preserving neighbourhood character.

  • Improved Active Transportation (2023): Secured multi-use pathways, streetlights, and crosswalks along Shannon Lake Road for safer streets.

  • Fire Mitigation Advocacy (2024): Collaborated with residents and officials to implement fire prevention measures adjacent to Crystal Springs MHP.

Advocacy & Resident Support - The SLNA continued to champion important neighbourhood concerns:

  • Auburn Road Development – Supporting residents' concerns regarding traffic and safety impacts.

  • Water Quality – Met with Regional Water Treatment staff to address water quality issues, including reviewing and sharing of test results.

  • Controlled Crosswalks – Advocated for safer crossings on Shannon Way, Shannon Woods Drive, and two locations on Shannon Lake Road.

Greater Access to City Council - The SLNA Executive regularly presents at city council meetings and meets with the city’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). SLNA members can also meet with mayor and council members through:

  • Annual “Meet and Greet” with city council.

  • Annual town hall meetings.

SLNA-sponsored Events - We believe in bringing our community together. Our annual events provide opportunities to connect with neighbours and foster a strong sense of belonging:

  • Annual Dinner & Dance – First Saturday in June (This event sold-out.)

  • Breakfast with Santa – First Saturday in December (This event sold-out.)

SOMETHING NEW - SLNA members will receive reduced ticket prices and preferred purchase opportunities for 2025 as our thank you for your support.

Your membership supports advocacy, community events, and essential costs like:

  • City facility rentals

  • BC Societies fees & admin expenses

  • Lobbying for neighbourhood concerns

We hope you'll consider purchasing a 2025 SLNA membership.  Annual membership sign-up can be found www.shannonlake.org/contact.

Yours,

The SLNA Team
